Miami: Hot and will continue to Sizzle
Miami used to be known as the place you go to after your retirement, but that has completely changed. Miami is still hot but it's not just because of the sunshine. If you're single and looking to have some fun, do some shopping or just simply explore the local offerings, this is a place that should definitely be on your list of must-sees.
Why you should go there
On any given day, Miami is a playground and an ongoing party all at the same time. It's a suntan and a bikini in a world-class resort and it's a glitzy, unruly combination of the best get-togethers on this side of the country. It's flashy, it's sexy, it's undeniably fun and if you're single, there's no better place in the world where you can mix high heels and white sands than in Miami. The late, great Frank Sinatra partied here and these days so do Paris Hilton, Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Lopez.
If you're looking to meet someone, Miami is tops in terms of quality and quantity. Many singles congregate here. Check out the clubs and bars and once you've partied long enough, turn up the heat some more and get salsa lessons in Miami Beach. No need to bring an escort, though. Your dance instructor will match you up with a partner and you'll be dancing with a different tune in no time.
When image is a lot
Should you dress up? This is Party Capital, after all. South Beach, as it is often referred to (or SoBe) has some of the trendiest clubs, bars and restaurants and the happenings are way too cool not to get dressed up for.
The coolness factor is apparent here, as many of the activities you'd want to participate in are dependent on 'the scene'. Roberto Cavalli has vodka that you can only get in Miami (and two other major cities) at $60 per bottle. That kind of honor is reserved only for the hippest places and Miami has certainly earned its kudos.
South Beach itself is a decadent mix of heady sea and sand, along with a good view of some of the world's best bodies on the shore. By night, those same bodies are transformed into well-dressed partygoers and diners, filling up the best restaurants and clubs. The rich and famous party here, along with the not so known. This is where you'll find Opium Garden, Crobar and Mansion. Glamour is a language spoken here and these clubs, along with a dozen others, drip with it.
Glamour not your type of scene? No problem. South Beach has plenty of lounge, Latin-flavored or just plain American bars that have the kind of vibe you're looking for. Want dance floors the size of warehouses? You'll find it here. These places are essentially singles scenes and not for the faint of heart.
Making the most out of the sunshine
Brought Fido along? Many of Miami's singles hook up thanks to their canine friends. Miami hosts weekly pet get togethers, such as those organized by China Grill (Dogs Gone Wild) every Sunday. It’s a great way to meet some of the locals and check out the eye candy.
Or, you could just stay in the water. The beaches are populated enough that it's nearly impossible not to find a single guy or gal looking to hook up or just be friends with. You can also join the Miami Beach Rowing Club and get lessons in rowing. The club has a good male-female mix and most lessons conclude with hearty barbecues in a more sociable setting.
Tired of the sand? Head to Little Havana and get a taste of Cuba without leaving the motherland. Visit Coconut Grove and the Coral Gables or take an airboat ride through the Everglades. Most of Miami's local residents can be found here, at Miami-Dade County and while it's a little quieter than South Beach, there are plenty of historical and cultural hotspots to find here, without sacrificing any of the Latin flavor you'll find in the greater Miami areas.
Can you take the heat?
The Miami heat is famous but you need not worry even if you're coming here in July or August. However, if you prefer not to mingle with family groups out for a summer vacation or tourists from overseas come to check out the place, best fly to Miami in September or October or swim with the crowds from November until May.
So is Miami as hot as it's rumored to be? Why don’t you come and find out? You'll be glad you did.
