St. Lucia
St. Lucia is a beautiful island in the Caribbean sea. It is a beautiful exotic island perfect for honeymoons or romance. It has many beautiful resorts and beaches as well as some great all inclusive resorts where food and drinks are included (even alcohol).
It is an independant nation, but it is part of Commonwealth of Nations of which Queen Elizabeth II is recognized as the Head of State and thus, English is the official language of St. Lucia. Most tourists travel to St. Lucia during the dry season from January to April but it it a great vacation holiday year round. It is the most mountainous of all the Caribbean Islands and is one of the few islands in the world that boasts a drive-in volcano. While most of the volcano is off limits due to the sulfuric gases and boiling hot springs, you can still see some amazing views of the ancient caldera.
Other tourist attractions include the Botanical Gardens, rain forests and Pigeon Island National Park, which is home to Fort Rodney, an old British military base.
St. Lucia is not just for those looking to lie on the beach all day. There are some beautiful nature trails through the mountainous rainforests. You can go hiking, biking, or even ride an ATV through the countryside and banana plantations. Throughout the island there are beautiful waterfalls, birds and plants to see and the island is also a great place to go whale or turtle watching.
There are even more natural attractions to see in the area. Marigot Bay, a lovely natural harbor that was once a hideout for pirates. The Maria Islands Nature Reserve is a series of tiny islands in southern Saint Lucia which is home to rare wildlife and birds, some of which do not exist anywhere else on Earth.
