Things to see and do:

La Paz Waterfalls - The La Paz Waterfall Gardens are absolutely beautiful. There are five amazing waterfalls along the trail and many species of birds, frogs and fish. There are also butterfly and snake observatories.

Poas Volcano - One of the most visited volcanoes in Costa Rica, Poas Volcano is near the capital city of San Jose (29 miles or 27 kilometers) and stands 8200 feet (2708 meters) above sea level. There is a paved overlook trail that leads right up to the crater and a side trails that lead to Botos Lake and through the forest.

Arenal Volcano - Arenal is considered one of the top 10 most active volcanoes in the world and is only about 3000 years old. Its activity creates lava flow and explosions on a daily basis which make for spectacular sites.

Cocos Island National Park - Once a hideout for pirates, Cocos Island is now a beautiful place to see flora and fauna and is sometimes referred to as a mini Galapagos.

Monteverde Cloud Forest - An incredible wildlife refuge, the Monteverde cloud forest provides great hikes to see the hundreds of species of mammals and birds as well as over 2500 species of plants. You can also explore the area on horseback.
