Having Fun in Sandusky, Ohio

If you’re thinking of visiting Sandusky, Ohio, it’s most likely to visit Cedar Point.  There are many other things you can do while there, and even other theme parks you can visit.  Here are some of the fun things a family can do when in Sandusky, Ohio.

Cedar Point is the most well known theme park in Ohio.  They have the tallest, fastest, and steepest roller coaster in the world.  They have many different roller coasters as well as thrill rides, although you will find some quieter and children’s rides as well.  They are known for having a lot of roller coasters though, so if anyone loves riding roller coasters, they will have a lot of fun.  There are also many stores, restaurants, and hotels in the area. There are also shows and other attractions to keep you busy.  Cedar Point is open from May – November.

Soak City is adjacent to Cedar Point, and as you can probably guess from its name, is a water park.  They have almost any type of water attraction that you can think of.  They are right on Lake Erie, so you can go to their beach.  They also have a wave pool, many water slides, river tubing, and even a splash zone.  They also have a large section of kids sized fun so that they will be able to enjoy the water attractions as well.  If you would like to visit Soak City, they are open from May – September.

Challenge Park is also part of Cedar Point.  While it is not exactly a theme park, there are many fun and exciting things you can do if you want to visit.  They have an X-Treme trampoline, a Skycoaster experience, golf, and grand prix racing.  No matter what your age, you’ll have a good time here!  They are open from May – November.

There is also Kalahari Waterpark, which is one of the largest indoor water parks in the country.  They recently finished an expansion and are now 173,000 sq. ft.  There are many things that you can do here, and a little part of it is even outdoors.  Here are just a few of the things that they have available.  They have a wave pool, raft rides, racing slides, Flowriders – which allow you to “surf” in lace, an indoor/outdoor hot tub, basketball pool, spas with swim up bars, and more.  They also have children’s play areasoth inside and outside.  There are private bungalows outdoors, and private indoor cabanas.  There is also a large African themed restaurant and bar. While the indoor waterpark is open all year round, the outdoor part is open from Memorial Day to Labor day, weather permitting.  

If that wasn’t enough for you, there is another indoor water park.  Great Wolf Lodge has a 42,000 square foot entertainment area.  There are plunging slides, kiddie rides, a flume ride, hot tubs, and more.  There are 9 waterslides, 3 pools, and a four-story treehouse waterfort.  There are also activities for kids, as well as basketball.  

After you’ve finished with all of the theme parks, there are many other things you can see in and near Sandusky Ohio.  First off is Thomas Edison’s Birthplace.  The house he was born in and lived in until he was seven was converted into an Edison museum, so you can visit that as well.  It is open from February – November.

If you are interested in caverns, Seneca Caverns isn’t far from Sandusky.  It is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and you can go on a one hour guided tour.  It is 54” all year round in the caverns though, so make sure you bring a jacket!  

If you enjoy hiking and camping, you are in luck.  Hiking and camping in Sandusky, Ohio is a perfect fusion of fun and outdoors. There are a lot of outdoor destinations in Ohio to find that perfect spot for hiking and camping.  For campers, Sandusky, Ohio is a dream. Campsites can be found 6, 9, 10, 11, 15 or 16 miles away from the center of the metro to the central zips of the campgrounds. Trails for hiking can be found 17 to 19 miles away from the metro.
