Crater Lake National Park

Crater Lake During a Cold Winter, Oregon, USA

Crater Lake National Park is home to a beautiful lake with crystal clear water located within the Cascade mountains in southern Oregon. It is the seventh deepest lake in the world, largest in the United States and fills a 4000 foot caldera left behind by an ancient volcano. The rim is between 7000 and 8000 feet above sea level with a 33 mile rim drive and 20 overlooks open during the summer.

There are two lodges and two campgrounds inside Crater Lake National Park. Permits are required for backcountry but are issued free of charge at the visitor's center. There are about 90 miles of hiking trails and for those into biking, cyclists are allowed on the narrow 33 mile rim drive, but it is a very physically demanding ride with a lot of steep climbs.

You don't have to stay overnight in the park. You can take a bus tour around the rim and stop at a few beautiful overlooks. You can also drive the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway which is about 500 miles long through California and Oregon. Just outside the park there are areas for whitewater river raft. There is beautiful scenery and adventure throughout the region.

Come enjoy one of the most majestic views of nature in the world. It is truly a wonderous sight to see.
