Relax in San Diego

If laid-back is more your style, then San Diego's a great place to chill out. With so many things to do you'll run out of time before you get to do them all. With great beaches, museums, food, and more, there's something for every member of the family. Situated in warm and sunny Southern California, and just a short drive away from south-of-the-border Tijuana, Mexico, adventures will hardly be in short supply.

Soak up the sun

As in a tropical area the beach is always something to be attracted to. From other beaches in the same state you'll find that there's more friendly people and more free parking in San Diego. Apart from that, it's definitely got more sun and warmer waters, as well as enough waves for surfer aficionados to catch some thrills.

If you want to give your children some sea-related thrills, why don't you try the Wave House, located in Beaumont's Park, San Diego. Anything that calls itself the "Royal Palace of Youth Culture" must be good for kids, right? It's a beachfront amusement park that has a wave-machine for some simulated hourly surfing action.

Another exciting place to visit in San Diego is SeaWorld, located Northwest of downtown in Mission Bay. It's home to Shamu, unofficial symbol and resident killer whale of San Diego. There are various animal performances also -- something your kids wouldn't want to miss -- so come early to avoid long lines.

Go for a swim in the Pacific at the La Jolla and watch the sun go down there. But practice caution as the surf is stronger than you think.

Soak up the wildlife

The San Diego Zoo is one of the most well known Zoos in the country.  It is ready to give anybody that passes by a new love for animals and nature, and you’ll get to see animals you definitely don't see everyday. Let your kids have the sleepover of a lifetime at the "Roar and Snore," under a blanket of stars and with the sound of wildlife lulling you to sleep. This lasts from four in the afternoon to breakfast the next morning, with a campfire supper to accompany your children's active imagination.

There's also a Journey into Africa tour that affords what a true African safari will let you experience -- two and a half miles of wildlife, maybe bringing you face to face with a lion, or a rhino, or what else you may find.

Soak up the flavor

San Diego is particularly blessed with a wide array of excellent epicurean delights. If you're looking for the catch of the day, a trip to the Fish Market is sure to satisfy. For the times you want to eat and drink like a local, you'll find that there are Chinese and mostly Mexican influences, as evidenced by the green tea latte served best with a touch of honey, and a selection of filling burritos served with salsa.

Soak up the culture

The music scene thrives in San Diego. All you have to do is spend a few hours in any coffee shop or bar at night. You can try heading to Gaslamp Quarter, which has been transformed into an entertainment and shopping district leaving hardly anything from its past. It's best experienced in the evening, a great place for cocktails and a slice of the nightlife, only a short walk from the harbor.

Balboa Park is a great place to experience art and culture. It has a good lot of museums and performance spaces that spot open green fields. You can just stroll around with the family -- it can take days to take a look into everything but even just a couple of hours can be worthwhile. Museums worth checking out are the Museum of Photographic Arts, Mingei International Museum, the San Diego Aerospace Museum, the Museum of Man and the Timken Museum of Art.

As you can see, there is a lot that will keep the whole family busy and having a great time.  Some other places you can visit while here include Seaport Village, Old Globe Theater, the Old Town Trolley, and a lot more.  If you’re looking for a fun vacation for the whole family, visit San Diego, California.
